Koena Mitra

Koena Mitra, born 7 January 1985 in Kolkata, India, is an actress in the Bollywood film industry. As her name indicates Koena Mitra's life flows through different realms of experience. She has been named after the renowned Bengali river. Koena Mitra is a Psychology Major from Kolkatta. Koena Mitra aspired to become an actress from the childhood days and to come to the glamorous field.
The dusky beauty from Bengal began her career as a model after winning the Gladrags Supermodel contest. Koena featured in a couple of music videos and made it big in TV commercials as she modeled for ACP Whisky, Miranda, Maruti Alto and Clinic All Clear. Koena’s first break in Bollywood was an item number in Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘Road’; the song “Khullam Khulla” became a big craze and Koena got typecasted as an item girl. Koena was flooded with offers to do raunchy numbers in Bollywood movies, but she refused as she was waiting to make her mark as an actress.
It took Koena two years and Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Musafir’ to break the mould. Even tough the actress played a dancer in the movie, she did have a cameo. Pritish Nandy’s ‘Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena’ was Koena’s first claim to fame as she played the lead actress opposite Fardeen Khan in the movie. Even tough the movie wasn’t a hit, Koena finally made it to the actress club. Koena dramatics aren’t very impressive, but she is able to procure roles with her dancing style and image.
However she got all the attention the movie "Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena" directed by Suparna Verma . Suparna Verma liked the new face in Musafir and made Koena as the heroine of his new film. In this movie she played the lead role opposite Fardeen Khan. This role was initially slated to play by Bipasha Basu, who backed out due to lack of dates. However it turned out to be a stepping-stone for Koena. Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena was not a big hit but was enough for Koena to make an entry to Bollywood actress club.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif can be pronounced the current reigning queen of Bollywood. She has been climbing the steps of success non stop since her debut in Boom [2003]. The London based model turned actress was once famous for her nil Hindi speaking skills. It is quite amazing to see her ruling the hearts of millions of Indians and the Hindi movie industry. She is known for her relationship with beau Salman Khan.
Katrina Kaif's rise in Bollywood has been as inexorable as it has been perplexing considering her accented Hindi and western demeanor. Bollywood filmmakers are now deferring to her popularity with hoarding that features her exclusively, a rare honor for an actress. The Yuvvraaj hoarding has only Katrina splashed over it, while the male leads Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Zayed Khan, for a change have taken a back seat.
An industry source revealed, "Katrina is considered to be a lucky mascot for her directors. Subhash Ghai is confident that Katrina will bring in luck for him too."Subhash Ghai also feels that a solo hoarding of Katrina is his way of telling her that she has earned her rightful due in the film.
The link up between Salman Khan, the most eligible bachelor of Bollywood and ethereal beauty, Katrina Kaif has attained a status of universal acceptance since long. And there are even speculations about Kat profiting career wise from her superstar boyfriend. But has just a few-years old heroine overshadowed the superstar of Bollywood? This seems to reflect so clearly in the new promotion posters that feature Katrina prominently – and lead actor Salman seen nowhere! The publicity campaign for Yuvraj is in full swing in Mumbai, but the most striking thing is Salman’s conspicuous absence from its posters and hoardings. Salman plays the lead role in the movie, but Katrina, who plays the main musician in the movie, is all over the publicity material.

A launch pad for Riya, cast in the female lead along with fellow-newcomers, Sharman Joshi, Sahil Khan and Shilpi Mudgal, the film pioneered a trend of commercial success for small budget films in India. Riya and the second female lead of the film were replaced by aspirant actresses Sunali Joshi and Jaya Seal in Xcuse Me, the sequel of Style.
Her next success was Jhankaar Beats, a comedy revolving around the music of legendary composer R D Burman, which saw her playing a small and glamorous role alongside Shayan Munshi, Juhi Chawla, Rahul Bose, Rinke Khanna and Sanjay Suri. Despite being part of a wave of offbeat films that mostly failed to make an impact at the box office, it surprisingly drew public attention upon its release, which led to a commercial success among a restricted audience targeted by a selective release in twenty cities. It was one of the first films made in Hinglish, a mixture of Hindi and English. In 2005, she starred in Shaadi No. 1, which saw her sharing screen time with Esha Deol, Soha Ali Khan and Ayesha Takia, without anyone getting established as the female lead.
